LABUAN – Residents have urged the local authority or relevant government agencies to consider constructing a roundabout at a four-way junction in Sungai Bangat here, citing daily traffic congestion that makes it difficult to enter the main road.
Residents, particularly those from Taman Ruby, Taman Ruby 2 and nearby housing areas, said they face problems exiting their neighbourhoods, especially during peak hours.
A Taman Ruby 2 resident said traffic congestion occurs almost every day during the morning, midday and evening rush.
“Without a roundabout, it is very challenging for us to drive out towards town for work. It also inconveniences other road users who are forced to queue behind us even though they are heading in a different direction,” he said.
He added that motorists sometimes have to wait for an extended period and are left with no choice but to drive towards Layangan before making a U-turn near the newly built shop lots where the DIY Plus outlet is located.
“We have to make a round there before heading into town,” he said.
The resident further recalled an incident in which a speeding motorcycle narrowly avoided crashing into his car while he was exiting the junction.
He expressed hope that the authorities would consider constructing a roundabout similar to those built near the Labuan Sports Complex and other areas, saying it would help ease traffic congestion and improve road safety during peak hours.
