KAJANG, Selangor — The Malaysia Immigration Department (JIM) detained 51 foreign nationals aged between 21 and 36 for various immigration offenses during their ‘Ops Selera’ raid at a busy business area in Sungai Long, which began at 6 PM on February 13.

A JIM spokesperson said that a total of 463 individuals, including 225 foreign nationals and 238 locals, were checked, leading to the detention of the 51 foreign nationals.

“Among the offenses identified were a lack of valid travel documents, overstaying, and misuse of passes or work permits. Some individuals held work permits for other sectors but were found working in business premises, thereby violating the conditions of their permits.

“During the operation, some individuals attempted to flee upon noticing enforcement officers. The operation team also used drone technology to track the movements of those trying to escape. All detainees will be taken to the Immigration Detention Depot for investigation and further action,” the spokesperson added.

JIM said it will continue to intensify enforcement operations periodically, including throughout Ramadan, focusing on high-risk areas such as Ramadan bazaars.

Employers are reminded not to hire or protect illegal immigrants, as strict action will be taken. Members of the public who have information regarding the presence of illegal immigrants are encouraged to report it through JIM’s official channels for further action.
