KULAI, Johor — The Director of the Johor State Department of Environment, Dr Mohd Famey Yusoff, conducted a site visit yesterday to the location of a fire involving a rubber processing factory and a warehouse in the Sengkang Industrial Area here.

He said the department had reviewed the installation of three air quality monitoring devices at two nearby schools to measure and identify air quality levels, as well as detect the presence of any gases that may exceed permissible limits.

“River water quality monitoring was also carried out, along with a preliminary investigation into the operations of the premises involved.

“Overall, the air quality in the surrounding area was found to be at a non-alarming level, and no hazardous pollutants have been detected thus far. However, continuous monitoring is still being conducted by the department to ensure that public safety remains safeguarded at all times,” he said.

On the second day of firefighting operations, efforts were led by the Fire and Rescue Department of Malaysia through the Kulai Fire and Rescue Station, with assistance from several other stations, technical support from the HAZMAT team, and cooperation from the Kulai Municipal Council (MPKu).

Also present were the department’s Senior Deputy Director, Mohd Rashdan Topa, and the Kulai District Officer, Fizwan Datuk Mohd Rashidi, to assess the current situation at the scene.
