PUTRAJAYA — The Office of the Keeper of the Rulers’ Seal has announced that the new moon (hilal) will be observed on the evening of Thursday, March 19, 2026, to determine the date of Aidilfitri (1 Syawal).
The declaration, made by command of His Majesty the Yang di-Pertuan Agong with the consent of the Conference of Rulers, marks the 29th day of Ramadan 1447 Hijrah.
Following established regulations, the Conference of Rulers has agreed that the start of Syawal will be determined using rukyah (moon sighting) and hisab (astronomical calculation).
A total of 29 locations nationwide have been authorised for the observation. The Keeper of the Rulers’ Seal will announce the confirmed date of Syawal on the night of the observation via national radio and television broadcasts. (Japen)
