LABUAN — Two retailers here in this island were issued compound fines by enforcement officers from the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) Labuan after they were found to have failed to display price tags on goods sold at their respective premises.
According to a KPDN Labuan spokesperson, the offence was detected during inspections carried out under Ops Pantau 2026, which was conducted in rural areas around Labuan yesterday.
“Failure to display price tags on goods or charges for services is an offence under the Price Control and Anti-Profiteering (Price Marking for Goods and Charges for Services) Order 2020, under the Price Control and Anti-Profiteering Act 2011 [Act 723],” he said.
The spokesperson reminded traders to ensure that every item sold is clearly displayed with a price tag that is visible and complies with the regulations in force.
Individuals convicted of the offence may face a fine of up to RM50,000, imprisonment for up to two (2) years, or both. For repeat offences, the penalty may increase to RM100,000, imprisonment for up to three (3) years, or both.
For companies, a fine of up to RM100,000 may be imposed for the first offence and up to RM250,000 for subsequent offences.
The spokesperson added that Ops Pantau is a KPDN initiative aimed at ensuring business activities comply with existing laws and protecting consumer interests, especially during the Ramadan month and in the lead-up to the Aidilfitri celebration.
