LABUAN — A late-night fire broke out at the Labuan Urban Transformation Centre (UTC) vegetable market on Friday, affecting four kiosks on the ground floor of the building.
The Labuan Sentral Fire and Rescue Station (BBP) received an emergency call at 11:15 PM and arrived at the scene, located approximately 2km from the station, within minutes.
According to the Operations Commander, PBT II Roslizan Yahya, the fire was confined to a small section of the market. “Upon arrival, the operations team confirmed a building fire involving four vegetable kiosks. The affected area is estimated to be less than 10 percent,” he stated in a report.
The firefighting team, consisting of 14 personnel and three appliances—including two Fire Rescue Tenders (FRT) and a water tank—managed to bring the blaze under control by 11:30 PM.
Firefighters utilized two hose lines and two nozzles to extinguish the flames. Fortunately, no injuries or casualties were reported during the incident.
The operation officially concluded at 12:06 AM after a final sweep and equipment check were conducted by the team.
“The case has been handed over to the Fire Investigation Department to determine the exact cause of the fire and the total value of losses,” Roslizan added.
Also present at the scene to monitor the situation were the Director General of Federal Territories Department Datuk Muhammad Azmi Mohd Zain, his deputy Datuk Parang Abai@Thomas and the chief executive officer of Labuan Corporation Rithuan Mohd Ismail.
Three members of the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) were also on-site.
