KENINGAU — The search and rescue (SAR) operation to locate two individuals reported missing at Sungai Pegalan entered its second day today.
A spokesperson for the Keningau Fire and Rescue Department said the operation commenced with a coordination briefing led by the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM), acting as Operations Commander, at the Disaster Operations Control Centre (PKOB).
“The briefing focused on refining search strategies and ensuring the safety of all personnel before the full-scale operation began,” the spokesperson said.
Search teams have been deployed to several designated areas along Sungai Pegalan, including Kampung Kadalakan, Kampung Mempikit and Kampung Ansip, to improve the probability of detection.
The spokesperson said rescuers are utilising a combination of systematic search techniques adapted to both river and land conditions. These include surface searches to locate victims or physical evidence on the water, detailed visual inspections along riverbanks and debris-prone areas, as well as line search methods along the shoreline to eliminate blind spots.
“The SAR teams remain committed to carrying out the operation with the highest level of preparedness while prioritising safety,” the spokesperson added.
The integrated operation involves multiple agencies, including PDRM, the Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) and the Malaysian Civil Defence Force (APM).
Authorities said updates on the operation will be provided from time to time.
