KUALA LUMPUR — Today marks the 100th day since Hannah Yeoh was appointed Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Federal Territories), with a series of reforms rolled out under the “Malaysia Madani: 100 Days Initiative in Kuala Lumpur.”
In a statement, Hannah Yeoh said the short timeframe required her team to “hit the ground running,” particularly as the appointment came toward the final phase of the current administration’s term.
She credited strong institutional support for the smooth implementation of the initiatives, noting that both the Federal Territories Department and Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) had played key roles.
“Everyone in the Federal Territories Department and DBKL understands the urgency, and they have been a wonderful source of support for my team,” she said, while also extending special appreciation to the Mayor of Kuala Lumpur for helping make the initiatives possible.
Hannah Yeoh added that she remains committed to continuing reforms in the capital. “I pray daily that I have a few more 100 days to bring reforms and positive changes in Kuala Lumpur,” she said.
Among the key measures introduced during the 100-day period, the fence at Padang Merbok was removed to return the public space to residents, while Members of Parliament are now directly involved in DBKL’s budgeting and planning processes to better reflect constituents’ voices.
To address cost-of-living pressures, rental rates for Ramadan bazaar lots were reduced to RM400, gym licensing fees cut by 80 per cent, and hawker stall rentals lowered by 50 per cent.
Efforts to strengthen governance include collaboration with the Malaysia Competition Commission (MyCC) to curb cartel practices in tenders, as well as opening DBKL processes to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) to enhance transparency and accountability.
Digital access to information has also improved, with green space records now available online and the DBKL One Stop Centre (OSC) portal opened to the public, offering greater visibility into urban planning matters.
Other initiatives include designating Stadium Titiwangsa as the “Home of Sepak Takraw,” upgrading road infrastructure across all 51 public housing (PA/PPR) areas under DBKL, and establishing a special task force to protect open and green spaces.
The measures, Hannah Yeoh said, reflect the government’s broader commitment to accountability, inclusivity and improving the quality of life for residents in the capital.
