LABUAN — The Labuan Karate team achieved a proud milestone at the East Java (JATIM) Open Karate Tournament – Kemenpora RI Cup 2026, bringing home 11 medals — three gold, two silver and six bronze — at the international-level competition held at GOR Ken Arok, Malang, Indonesia.
Represented by nine athletes, the team finished 10th out of 81 contingents comprising 1,396 athletes.
Senior athlete Syarulniza Abdul Jamil opened the team’s medal tally by claiming gold in the Senior Women’s Kumite 61kg event.
The momentum continued with Muhammad Isyraf Faiz Mohd Ismifarizal, who won gold in the Senior Men’s Kumite Over 84kg event. He also secured a silver medal in the U21 Men’s Kumite Over 84kg category.
Ayqal Mohd Dzulfadly delivered the team’s third gold medal after emerging champion in the U14 Boys’ Kumite Under 55kg event.
Meanwhile, Mohamad Aqib Aimar Mohamad Affendi displayed great fighting spirit, claiming silver in the U12 Boys’ Kumite Under 35kg after narrowly losing in the final. He also contributed a bronze medal in the U12 Boys’ Kata event.
Muhammad Adil Mohd Badruddin also recorded an impressive performance, winning two bronze medals in the Junior Men’s Kata and Junior Men’s Kumite Under 68kg categories.
Twin siblings Nur Aleesya Dayana Asmadie and Nur Ariesya Dayana Asmadie each earned bronze medals in the Cadet Girls’ Kumite Under 54kg and Cadet Girls’ Kumite Under 47kg categories, respectively.
The team’s sixth bronze medal was secured by Khaidyn Nazeem Mazri in the Cadet Boys’ Kumite Over 70kg category.
Team president Renshi Aswadee Taba said the achievement proved the capability of Labuan Karate athletes to compete at the international level and served as a positive indicator of karate’s development in Labuan.
