SERDANG, Selangor — Bio-Angle Vacs Sdn Bhd (BAV), in collaboration with Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) scientists, has developed the STVac intranasal spray vaccine, the first product of its kind in the world.

During a recent visit by the Director-General of the Department of Veterinary Services (DVS), Datuk Dr. Mohd Noor Hisham Mohd Haron, to the BAV facility at UPM-MTDC Technology Centre III, he was briefed that the vaccine is capable of reducing mortality rates among small ruminants—such as goats and sheep—caused by pneumonia by up to 98 percent.

“Local vaccine production would help reduce reliance on imports while contributing to the National Food Security agenda through sustainable livestock health management,” said a spokesperson in the visit.

The visit underscored DVS’ support for the development of locally produced animal vaccines as part of efforts to strengthen national preparedness against potential external threats, including zoonotic pandemics, economic restrictions, and global supply disruptions.

Dr. Mohd Noor Hisham and his delegation toured the inactivated bacterial vaccine production facility, which was developed in accordance with Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) standards and is reported to be the first of its kind in Southeast Asia.

The delegation was also introduced to ViVac, a feed-based vaccine innovation for marine fish that provides up to an 80 percent survival rate against vibriosis. BAV is a local company specializing in the development of veterinary biotechnology products and animal health supplements.

Also present were the Head of the Veterinary Biological Products Section under the Veterinary Public Health Division (DVS), Dr. Adam Kwan Abdullah; BAV founder Seleman Arif; BAV Director Tarmiti Kasiron; and BAV co-founder Prof. Dr. Zamri Saad.
