KUALA LUMPUR — The remaining 16 flotillas of the Global Sumud Flotilla (GSF) set sail yesterday from Catania Port, Italy, heading into international waters en route to Gaza for their humanitarian cause.
“Forty flotillas sailed from Barcelona and will be sailing together with the flotillas from Italy. Some flotillas are currently under technical maintenance and repair in Catania Port and are expected to join the rest of the flotillas once the technical work is completed,” said the Sumud Nusantara Command Centre (SNCC) in a media statement yesterday.
SNCC reported that all 36 Malaysians on the flotillas, comprising boat engineers, captains, the medical team, boat crews, and participants, were highly motivated and in good health to pursue their humanitarian mission.
“The secretariat is always monitoring their safety and well-being so that the operation will run smoothly in international waters,” said SNCC in the statement.
Meanwhile, SNCC informed the public that three Malaysians, namely Nur Heliza Helmi, Nur Hazwani Afiqah Helmi, and Nurul Hidayah Mohd Amin, had been reassigned to the SNCC Sepang base after several flotillas, including theirs, were badly damaged.
“They have arrived safely in Malaysia and will resume their official duties at the base, which will strategically coordinate the seven countries involved in the GSF.
“We are fully committed to making this mission successful and urge all Malaysians to give their full moral support and to pray for the safety of GSF participants,” explained SNCC. “The media and members of the public are urged to refer to SNCC for the latest and verified information about the mission.”
