LABUAN — Sekolah Kebangsaan Tanjung Aru (SKTA) emerged champion in the Girls’ Under-12 category and secured joint third place in the Boys’ Under-12 category at the Labuan Federal Territory Schools Sports Council (MSSWPL) Hockey Championship 2026 held at Labuan International School recently.
The school also swept three individual awards in the girls’ category, with Nur Aleysha Yusshaymee Muhammad Yusuf named Best Overall Player, Seri Suriyanis Ali Subroto receiving the Best Goalkeeper award and Nurhana Syuhadah Zunnurain Abdullah being named Best Midfielder.
The SKTA girls’ team delivered an impressive performance throughout the tournament, displaying strong discipline, teamwork and determination to overcome their opponents and claim the championship title.
Meanwhile, the school’s boys’ team finished joint third with Sekolah Kebangsaan Bukit Kalam after producing consistent and spirited performances during the competition.
SKTA headmaster Mohd Farihi Ab. Halim congratulated Senior Assistant for Co-Curricular Affairs Irham Hamid, the coaches, team managers, players and parents for their commitment and support.
“This success is the result of the players’ hard work, the coaches’ dedication and the cooperation of the entire school community.
“I hope this achievement will motivate the team to continue bringing honour to SK Tanjung Aru in future tournaments,” he said.
Team coach Muhammad Faurizan Jaidin attributed the achievement to continuous training, strong discipline and the pupils’ commitment to balancing academic and co-curricular excellence.
He also acknowledged the cooperation of parents who allowed the players to attend training sessions every afternoon.
Muhammad Faurizan was assisted by Theodorus Clarence Tessensohn, while Laura Aban and Noraisah Samin served as team managers.
The team’s sports physiotherapists were Suria Fezzira Abdul Majis and Mohd Sharul Faridzan Ajak @ Saini.
The school said the achievement reflected its commitment to developing pupils’ sporting talents through systematic training, teamwork and strong support from the school community and parents.
It hoped the success would inspire other pupils to participate actively in sports while developing discipline, leadership, good character and sportsmanship.
The closing and prize-giving ceremony was officiated by Labuan Education Department Student Development Sector chief assistant director Mohd Fadzli Sheikh Abdul Rahim.
