LABUAN — Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Tanjung Aru achieved its best-ever finish in the Majlis Sukan Sekolah-Sekolah Wilayah Persekutuan Labuan (MSSWPL) Cricket Championship after emerging runners-up in the 2026 edition held at SMK Pantai here recently.
The achievement marked the school’s highest placing in the tournament since it began participating, reflecting the players’ dedication, disciplined training and the commitment of the coaching and management team.
SK Tanjung Aru narrowly missed the championship title after losing to SK Rancha-Rancha by just one point in a closely contested final.
The strong performance also earned four SK Tanjung Aru pupils selection to represent the Federal Territory of Labuan at the Majlis Sukan Sekolah Malaysia (MSSM) Cricket Championship, scheduled to be held in Kelantan from Aug 28 to Sept 4.
The selected players are Year Six pupils Mohamad Zahin Mohamad Hazlin, Muhamad Hafidzuan Mohizam and Muhammad Wafii Nazri Muhammad Ameran, as well as Year Five pupil Afiq Hafizuddin Mohammad Nezam.
Adding to the school’s success, Mohamad Zahin received the Under-12 All-Rounder Award and a Man of the Match award, while Muhamad Hafidzuan was also named Man of the Match for SK Tanjung Aru during the tournament.
Head coach Theodorus Clarence Tessensohn expressed his appreciation to headmaster Mohd Farihi Ab Halim, the school’s administrators, teachers and parents who attended the championship at SMK Pantai to support and motivate the team throughout the competition.
He also conveyed his special thanks to SK Tanjung Aru Senior Assistant for Co-Curricular Activities Irham Hamid for his encouragement and unwavering support for the team.
The team was assisted by young coach Adib Aiman Adam and team manager Amira Syakirra Asmawe, whose commitment and effective management contributed to the squad’s success.
The school hopes the runners-up finish and the selection of four players to the national-level MSSM championship will inspire more pupils to excel in sports while providing valuable experience for the players.
