LABUAN — The Federal Territories Islamic Religious Council (MAIWP) has extended various forms of assistance to asnaf families in Labuan, including fishing equipment, medical aid, housing and basic household necessities, under the Ziarah MADANI Prihatin programme.
The assistance was delivered during a two-day working visit by Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Religious Affairs) Senator Dr Zulkifli Hasan to Labuan from Aug 8 to 9.
Among the recipients were two asnaf fishermen, Jefferydin Abang, 53, and Kahar Suboh, 63, who received assistance under the MAIWP Fisheries Incentive.
Jefferydin received a 15-foot fibreglass boat worth RM8,900, while Kahar received a boat engine worth RM7,250 to help them increase productivity and generate more sustainable income.
A mock cheque for RM69,494 was also presented for the distribution of Fisheries Incentives from January to July 2026.
Meanwhile, MAIWP is providing RM26,806.20 in medical assistance to Akif Irfan Lot Galakong, 33, to cover the cost of his wife’s ongoing medication under the MAIWP General Medical Assistance Scheme.
His wife suffers from Adult-Onset Still’s Disease (AOSD), while the couple also has a child with autism who requires specialised care.
In another assistance, Matusin Matnor, 53, of Kampung Sungai Lada, received a MAIWP-assisted house worth RM100,000.
Matusin, who works as a rigger with a private company and earns a net monthly income of RM1,544.65, previously lived with his sister-in-law together with his non-working wife and three school-going children.
MAIWP also approved RM20,000 worth of basic household furnishings, including a refrigerator, washing machine, stove, gas cylinder, beds, mattresses and wardrobes.
The visit also included the symbolic handover of assisted houses to Siti Naimah Mohamad and Julita Chua in Kampung Sungai Buton, with each house valued at RM80,000.
The houses were built under the Rumah Sinar Lestari YaPEIM programme in collaboration with the Implementation Coordination Unit (ICU) of the Prime Minister’s Department.
Each family visited under the programme also received RM300 in cash and RM250 worth of essential groceries.
Zulkifli was accompanied by MAIWP chairman Datuk Syed Kamarulzaman Syed Kabeer, MAIWP Deputy Chief Executive Officer (Management) Mohd Fauzi Abidin, MAIWP Labuan Branch manager Mohd Rafie Zakaria and heads of the agencies involved. Labuan Member of Parliament Datuk Dr Suhaili Abd Rahman was also present during the mock-cheque handover.
