LABUAN — The Department of Information (JAPEN) Labuan today distributed 200 Jalur Gemilang magnets to the public at the PETRONAS station on Jalan Tun Mustapha here as part of efforts to enliven the National Month 2026 celebrations.
JAPEN Labuan director Ruddyansjah Mahtar Hams said the JAPEN@PETRONAS Jalur Gemilang Expression Programme was aimed at encouraging Malaysians to fly the national flag as a symbol of patriotism, unity and love for the country.
He said the programme was held simultaneously at 15 selected PETRONAS stations nationwide, including the Jalan Tun Mustapha station in Labuan, in collaboration with agencies under the Communications Ministry and PETRONAS.
“The Jalur Gemilang is not merely a piece of cloth, but represents our dignity and unites Malaysians.
“Let us enliven the National Month celebrations by flying the Jalur Gemilang, including through the ‘One House, One Jalur Gemilang’ campaign,” he said.
Ruddyansjah said magnets were used this year as they were safer and easier to remove compared with flags attached to vehicles, following complaints in previous years that some flags had become detached and posed a danger to other motorists.
He said PETRONAS was chosen as the programme’s partner this year as the national oil and gas company was a symbol of Malaysia, while its stations were frequented by motorists in Labuan.
“We want the Jalur Gemilang to be seen flying everywhere around Labuan,” he said.
Ruddyansjah said JAPEN Labuan would also organise various programmes with the Madani community, Labuan Corporation and other partners throughout the National Month celebrations, with the Kembara Merdeka Jalur Gemilang (KMJG) 2026 X JAGO scheduled for Aug 30 as one of the highlights.
He said several agencies, including those under the Communications Ministry such as Radio Televisyen Malaysia (RTM), Bernama and the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC), would participate in the programme.
He urged Malaysians of all races to take pride in flying the Jalur Gemilang as a symbol of their love for the country.
“Let August and September be Malaysia’s festive months. Let us decorate our homes with the Jalur Gemilang to nurture the spirit of patriotism and love for the country,” he said.
Also present at the programme was the Deputy Director of RTM Labuan Howard Martin Kim Sung @ Cornelius.
