LABUAN — A 57-year-old man was found dead in a locked rental house on the second floor of a building above JJ Naza Restaurant (BSN) here today.
The deceased was identified as Tan Boon Tai.
Labuan Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) said it received an emergency call at 4.55pm before a team from the Rancha-Rancha and Labuan Sentral Fire and Rescue Stations arrived at the scene at 5.04pm.
The department said firefighters broke open the door of the rental unit after receiving information from the tenant and police.
“Upon entering the premises, the team found the victim lying on a mattress and unresponsive.
“Based on information from the Health Ministry, the victim was believed to have been dead for more than five days,” it said in a statement.
Firefighters then carried out operations to lift and lower the body from the second floor before handing it over to the police for further action.
The operation, involving 14 firefighters and three fire appliances, was completed at 6.10pm after the team ensured there were no further hazards at the scene.
Five police personnel were also involved in the operation.
The operation was led by PBT II TBK II Azri Abdullah and PBK II Zulfakir Siman, under the supervision of Senior Fire Superintendent Nasrullah Attu.
