LABUAN — Universiti Malaysia Sabah Labuan International Campus (UMSKAL) held a Malaysia Day celebration in conjunction with its 32nd Orientation Week for the 2026/2027 academic session last night, aimed at fostering patriotism and love for the country among new students.
The celebration at the UMSKAL Main Hall was attended by UMSKAL Director Prof Dr Shamsul Bahari Shamsudin, who emphasised the importance of unity and the spirit of Malaysia Madani among university students in his welcoming speech.
Also present were Labuan Faculty of International Finance (FKAL) Deputy Dean (Student Affairs and Alumni) Dr Hassanah Husin, Deputy Dean (Academic and International) Dr Ricky Chia Chee Jiun, and UMSKAL Student Affairs Division head Nur Iman Reedzal.
UMSKAL officers and staff also joined the celebration, which began at 8 pm with the singing of the national anthem, Negaraku, followed by the recitation of the Rukun Negara pledge.
The programme continued with a mass waving of the Jalur Gemilang and the singing of patriotic songs by the new students, creating an atmosphere of pride and unity.
The presentation of Jalur Gemilang flags to representatives of the new student group leaders was also held as a symbolic gesture of fostering unity and patriotism among the university’s younger generation.
The celebration concluded with a group photography session involving university management and the new students, marking the beginning of their academic journey with a strong sense of patriotism.
The enthusiastic singing of patriotic songs also reflected the students’ and staff’s appreciation and love for Malaysia.
