LABUAN — A total of 525 pupils from Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Tanjung Aru took part in the Muzium Merentas Kampus dan Sekolah 2026 programme organised by Muzium Chimney, Department of Museums Malaysia, in conjunction with the Jelajah Hari Malaysia 2026.
The programme, held at SK Tanjung Aru, was a collaboration between Muzium Chimney and the school aimed at exposing pupils to local history and heritage through interactive and creative learning activities.
Among the activities held were a museum exhibition, a sharing session titled “Tanjung Kubong: Unravelling the Mystery of Coal Point and Malaysia’s Black Gold History”, and the interactive Heritage Wheel quiz.
Level Two pupils also took part in STEM DIY activities, including making a periscope for Year Four pupils, a solar fan for Year Five pupils and a solar energy double ring for Year Six pupils.
Other activities included a brick weight-guessing activity, an interactive Merdeka quiz, a crossword puzzle, Malaysian flag-related activities and Independence Day colouring activities.
The programme, which is part of the Department of Museums Malaysia’s 2026 Programme Calendar, aims to strengthen history education, promote local cultural heritage and enhance strategic ties between museums, the community and educational institutions.
Muzium Chimney programme coordinator Nurlina Hamza said the programme served as a platform to highlight and promote the country’s history and traditional heritage through strategic collaboration, particularly with educational institutions.
She also conducted the sharing session on Tanjung Kubong, Coal Point and Malaysia’s black gold history, giving pupils an insight into Labuan’s coal-mining history.
Meanwhile, SK Tanjung Aru Senior Assistant for Administration Mohd Faisal Moin expressed appreciation to Muzium Chimney for choosing the school as the programme venue.
“The school is proud that the pupils were able to answer questions about Muzium Chimney and museums in the Federal Territory of Labuan accurately. We hope the historical heritage will continue to be appreciated by pupils and the younger generation,” he said.
The Muzium Chimney team comprised Nurlina Hamza, Junaida Omar Junit, Ahmad Mohamed Yudin and Rohayah Awang Yahya, while coordination at SK Tanjung Aru was led by Mohd Sharul Faridzan Ajak @ Sain, assisted by Siti Fauzela Masri.
The programme is expected to foster greater interest among the younger generation in local history and heritage, while ensuring that the country’s historical and cultural treasures continue to be appreciated and passed on to future generations.
