UMSKAL Student Kitchen Committee Visits SFFM

LABUAN — Fifteen members of the Madani Student Kitchen (DSM) Committee of Alpha Residential College, Universiti Malaysia Sabah Labuan International Campus (UMSKAL), gained first-hand exposure to food production, quality control and workplace safety during an educational visit to Sabah Flour & Feed Mills Sdn Bhd (SFFM) here today.

The visit also strengthened cooperation between UMSKAL and SFFM in supporting student welfare, with the company contributing 10 boxes of flour and aprons to the DSM of Alpha Residential College.

The delegation comprised 15 DSM committee members and two deputy presidents of the Alpha and Beta Residential College Student Representative Councils (JAKMAS), who also serve as Welfare and Security Executive Committee members.

The group was accompanied by Mazlan Jumat and Casie Clarieshame Sinius from the Residential College Administration Division (BPKK), UMSKAL.

The four-hour visit, from 8.30 am to 12.30 pm, included briefings on SFFM’s operations, flour processing and products, as well as health and safety equipment.

SFFM HR Administrative Assistant Manager Yusnor Affidzah Yunus gave an introduction to the company, while Production Manager Ling Ching Yong explained the flour processing operations and products.

Production Assistant and Safety Coordinator Tonny Tuwin subsequently briefed the participants on health and safety equipment.

The participants also visited the company’s Quality Assurance/Quality Control (QA/QC) and Production departments, where Assistant QA/QC Manager Phenie Folonia Teo explained the quality assurance and control processes.

During the two-way engagement session, Mazlan also introduced the DSM initiative to the SFFM management.

The visit provided the students with practical insights into food industry management and production processes, while enhancing their understanding of quality assurance, quality control and workplace safety.
