LABUAN — Nineteen foreign nationals were detained during a joint enforcement operation conducted by the Labuan Immigration Department and the Labuan National Registration Department today.
The operation, conducted from 12:50 am to 3:15 am around the Federal Territory of Labuan, involved Immigration officers and personnel of various ranks as well as officers from the Labuan National Registration Department.
Labuan Immigration director Mohd Redzuan Nawi said a total of 38 foreign and local individuals were inspected during the operation.
“Those detained comprised 11 Filipinos — four men, six women, two boys and one girl — as well as six Indonesians, comprising three men and three women,” he said in a statement today.
He said all 19 were detained for allegedly committing offences under Section 6(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63 (Act 155) and Regulation 39(b) of the Immigration Regulations 1963.
The detainees are currently being held at the Labuan district police headquarters and Labuan Immigration Detention Depot for investigation and further action.
The department also issued one summons notice during the inspection to assist in further investigations.
Mohd Redzuan said the department would continue taking firm action against parties found to have committed offences under the Immigration Act 1959/63, Passport Act 1966, Immigration Regulations 1963 and Anti-Trafficking in Persons and Anti-Smuggling of Migrants Act 2007 (ATIPSOM).
“Firm action will also be taken against any party employing or harbouring undocumented migrants,” he said.
