LABUAN — The Malaysian Consumer Claims Tribunal (TTPM) in Labuan has resolved two consumer claims involving cement and furniture purchases worth a total of RM3,680.

The cases were heard on Tuesday by Tribunal president Salmi Zalinah Abdul Rahim, with awards issued in favour of the claimants.

In the cement purchase case, the tribunal ordered the respondent to pay RM180 in compensation within seven days of the award being issued.

In the furniture purchase case, the tribunal ordered the respondent to refund RM3,500 within 14 days of receiving the award.

The Labuan branch of the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) reminded all parties to comply with tribunal awards within the stipulated periods, warning that failure to do so could result in enforcement action under the Consumer Protection Act 1999 (Act 599).

KPDN Labuan also encouraged consumers to use the tribunal as an alternative to the civil courts for seeking redress over the purchase of goods or services, describing it as an accessible, affordable and speedy avenue for resolving disputes.

Consumers facing problems involving goods or services were advised to seek information and assistance through KPDN’s official channels.
