KUALA LUMPUR — Menteri Besar Selangor (Incorporated) (MBI Selangor) has sealed a strategic partnership with Farmerex Sdn Bhd through the exchange of two agreement documents for the development of a commercial aquaculture farming project in the Sungai Lang Fisheries Industrial Zone (ZIPS), Sabak Bernam, on May 21, 2026.

The document exchange ceremony, which took place in Kuala Lumpur, involved a Lease Agreement for 50 acres of land for aquaculture farming purposes, as well as a Joint Venture Agreement for the development of a commercial aquaculture farm.

MBI Selangor was represented by the Head of the Sabak Bernam Development Zone, Zannifa Azura Ahmad, while Farmerex Sdn Bhd was represented by its Managing Director, Teoh Han Boon. The ceremony was also witnessed by Datuk Rizam Ismail, Exco for Rural Development, Unity, and Consumers, who is also the Chairman of the Sabak Bernam Consultative Council.

Farmerex Sdn Bhd is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Camaroe Berhad, a public company listed on the ACE Market of Bursa Malaysia, possessing extensive experience in the aquaculture industry and fisheries product processing.

This strategic cooperation marks an important step in the development of a modern aquaculture industry in ZIPS, with a primary focus on the development planning of high-tech commercial shrimp farming. This project will also be the first operation to commence in the ZIPS area since it was officiated by Menteri Besar of Selangor Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari on April 25, 2026.

As one of the main catalyst projects under the Sabak Bernam Development Area (SABDA), the development of ZIPS aligns with the Selangor State Government’s aspiration to strengthen the food security agenda, empower the blue economy, and boost sustainable and inclusive rural development.

ZIPS is planned as an integrated fisheries industry hub encompassing aquaculture farming, seafood processing, cold chain logistics, and the development of value-added downstream industries.

This development is expected to strengthen the state’s fisheries industry ecosystem while increasing local seafood production capacity to meet domestic and export demands.

Aside from supporting the national agenda in terms of food security, the project is also expected to act as a catalyst for local economic growth through the creation of quality employment opportunities, local talent development, and increased youth participation in the modern technology- and innovation-based aquaculture sector.

Commenting on the collaboration, MBI Selangor Group Chief Executive Officer, Datuk Ts. Saipolyazan M. Yusop, said, “This strategic partnership is another significant step for MBI Selangor in realizing the state’s sustainable and high-impact economic development agenda. The development of a modern aquaculture industry in ZIPS will not only strengthen the state’s food supply chain but also open up new economic opportunities for the local community, particularly in Sabak Bernam.

MBI Selangor remains committed to facilitating strategic investments that can stimulate high-value industrial development, in line with SABDA’s aspirations as a driver of new economic growth in northern Selangor.”

The collaboration between MBI Selangor and Farmerex Sdn Bhd reflects the ongoing commitment of the Selangor State Government to attracting strategic investments, stimulating regional economic development, and reinforcing Sabak Bernam’s position as a progressive, sustainable, and competitive new economic hub.

SABDA is a strategic economic initiative under the First Selangor Plan (RS-1) of the Selangor State Government. This initiative is led by MBI Selangor with the goal of empowering the community to build a sustainable and viable ecosystem by strengthening food security, resilience, and livelihoods based on sustainable practices. —Bernama
