LABUAN — The Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) Labuan has intensified its enforcement activities under the Festive Season Maximum Price Scheme (SHMMP) for the 2026 Kaamatan and Gawai festivals, resulting in a compound fine issued to a non-compliant trader today.
The fine was issued during an inspection conducted by KPDN enforcement officers at a grocery store in a rural area of Labuan after the operator was found violating ongoing SHMMP regulations.
Labuan KPDN Director Junaidah Arbain said the trader failed to display the mandatory pink price tags on controlled items, which is required throughout the scheme’s implementation period.
“The special pink price tagging is crucial as it helps consumers easily identify price-controlled goods and enhances price transparency in the market,” she said in a statement today.
Junaidah explained that failing to comply with this requirement is an offence under the Price Control and Anti-Profiteering (Price Marking for Price-Controlled Goods) Order, enforced under the Price Control and Anti-Profiteering Act 2011 [Act 723].
Following the discovery of the violation, an immediate compound notice was issued to the trader at the inspection site. Junaidah emphasised that the swift action reflects KPDN’s firm commitment to ensuring legal compliance and protecting consumer rights during the festive season.
Under the existing legal provisions, individuals found guilty of the offence face a maximum court fine of RM10,000 or an administrative compound of up to RM5,000. For companies or corporate bodies, the penalty is a maximum fine of RM20,000 or a compound of up to RM10,000.
The public is urged to channel information or lodge complaints if they detect any violations regarding the festive price control scheme.
Junaidah assured that Labuan KPDN remains fully committed to continuous monitoring and enforcement to uphold domestic trade laws, thereby protecting the interests of consumers and compliant traders alike.
