KUALA LUMPUR — The Labuan Research, Innovation and Creativity Society (LaRIS) successfully organized the 5th National Innovation Judges and Innovators Gathering (PHIK) on June 5, 2026, at Furama Bukit Bintang, Kuala Lumpur.
LaRIS Chairman, Dr. Hyginus Lester Junior Lee, stated that this year’s program involved presentations from innovation competition juries and innovators among educators. The gathering’s theme emphasized issues in the creation, development, evaluation, and sustainability of innovation. Presenters were required to deliberate on key innovation issues, including copyright, creativity, evaluation, rubrics, effectiveness, efficiency, cost, product sustainability, marketing, and commercial value.
The program featured 20 physical presentations and six recorded online presentations. A total of 40 physical presenters and participants attended, comprising school teachers, lecturers, and education officers from various states: Sabah (13), Labuan (6), Selangor (4), Pahang (3), Terengganu (3), Johor (2), Kedah (2), Melaka (2), Perak (2), Sarawak (1), and Kuala Lumpur (1). Meanwhile, the six online presenters were from Sabah (5) and Terengganu (1).
Ts. Martini Mohamad from Kolej Vokasional Klang was crowned the best presenter and gold medal winner. Other gold medal winners included Irma Rahayu Ibrahim (IPG Kampus Bahasa Antarabangsa, Kuala Lumpur), Nurul Hidayah Umar (WP Labuan Education Department), Nor Amin Lawisau (IPG Kampus Gaya, Sabah), and Ts. Ivy Iwana Abdullah (SMK Tebobon, Sabah). Stephanie Jauseh (SK Tiong Widu, Sabah) also received a gold medal for her online presentation.
The event also featured two special lecture slots. The first, titled “Recognising Social Innovation in Malaysia,” was delivered by Nur Fadzlina Mahamad Razi, Vice President of the Malaysia Innovation Foundation (YIM). The second lecture, titled “Concepts and Characteristics of Innovation,” was presented by Dr. Hyginus Lester Junior Lee.
The judging panel for the presentations consisted of Amiah Bua and Junaidah Baharuddin (WP Labuan Education Department), Nurulhuda Mohd Derus (SK Pekan Dua, Labuan), Nur Rawaidah Rahmat (IPG Kampus Darulaman), Mohd Fadhil Omar (SK Chengal Lempong, Pahang), Dr. Goh Kok Ming (SJKC Hua Lian 1, Perak), and Dr. Richeal Phil Thien Kim How (IPG Kampus Tawau).
