USK Labuan Karate Team Wins 25 Medals At MILO International Open Championship

KUALA LUMPUR — The USK Labuan Karate Team finished ninth overall at the 25th MILO International Open Karate Championship 2026 after winning five gold, 10 silver and 10 bronze medals at Stadium Titiwangsa here.

The championship, held from June 25 to 28, attracted more than 1,800 participants from over 60 local and international teams, and was recognised by the Malaysia Book of Records as the largest karate championship by number of participants.

USK Karate Team president Renshi Aswadee Taba said the team’s achievement was the result of strong commitment, discipline and hard work by the athletes, coaches, parents and supporters throughout the championship.

He also expressed appreciation to the Federal Territories Sports Council and Labuan Sports Council for their continuous support, which he said had played an important role in the team’s success.

The team’s gold medals were won by Mohamad Aqib Aimar Mohamad Affendi in the Boys Kata 10-11 Years category, Sarifin Tan Pui Thung in the Senior Female Kumite -55kg, Syarulniza Abdul Jamil in the Senior Female Kumite -61kg, Sam Hiang Fong in the Senior Female Kumite +68kg, and Syarulniza again in the Best of the Best Female Kumite category.

Mohamad Aqib Aimar also secured silver in the Boys Kumite 10-11 Years -30kg category, while other silver medallists included Jayden Ho Zhe Xian in Boys Kata 10-11 Years, Melanie Lim Xiao Hui in Girls Kata Five Years Old, Gia Melanie Suhaine in Girls Kumite 10-11 Years -40kg, Dayang Dania Aniezah Zulkifly in Junior Female Kumite +66kg, Hazimah Jamil in Senior Female Kumite -50kg, and Ayqal Mohd Dzulfadly in Male Kumite Under-14 -55kg.

USK also won silver in the Boys Team Kata through Mohamad Aqib Aimar, Ayqal, Jayden Ho and Khaidyn Nazeem; the Cadet and Junior Team Kata through Nur Aleesya, Nur Ariesya and Erika Kathleen; and the Senior Female Team Kumite through Hazimah Jamil, Sarifin Tan, Sam Hiang Fong and Syarulniza.

The bronze medals were won by Nishi Takeru, Jaxon Ho Zhe Yi, Jolynn Ho Yi Xuan, Ho Chiang Seng, Miegal Lim Xiou Rou, Muhammad Adil Mohd Badruddin, Sam Hiang Fong and Nur Aleesya Dayana Asmadie, as well as the Cadet Female Team Kumite comprising Nur Aleesya Dayana, Nur Ariesya Dayana and Erika Kathleen.

Aswadee said the achievement marked another important milestone for the USK Labuan Karate Team and would serve as motivation for the athletes to continue pursuing excellence at national and international levels.
