LABUAN — A total of 270 Year Four to Year Six pupils from SK Tanjung Aru participated in the National Jom Berus Gigi (Let’s Brush Our Teeth) Programme organised by the Labuan Federal Territory Health Department in collaboration with the school on Wednesday.
The one-hour programme, held from 10.30am to 11.30am, aimed to raise awareness among pupils on the importance of maintaining good oral health and to instil the habit of proper tooth brushing from an early age.
The programme involved 270 Level Two pupils, comprising 144 boys and 126 girls, together with 46 teachers. During the event, health officers from the Labuan Federal Territory Health Department delivered talks on oral healthcare before conducting a demonstration and simultaneous practical tooth-brushing session.
The initiative also highlighted the importance of preventing tooth decay through consistent oral hygiene practices and the use of proper tooth-brushing techniques as part of daily routines. It is in line with the Malaysia Education Plan (RPM) 2026–2035, which emphasises stronger collaboration between the Ministry of Education and stakeholders to improve education quality and support the holistic development of pupils.
SK Tanjung Aru headmaster Mohd Farihi Ab Halim thanked the Labuan Federal Territory Oral Health Division for selecting the school to host the programme.
“I would like to express my highest appreciation and gratitude to the Labuan Federal Territory Oral Health Division for choosing our school as the venue for this meaningful programme.
“We hope the close relationship between the school and the Health Department will continue to be strengthened in our efforts to nurture a generation that is healthy, intelligent and of good character. The department’s presence reflects its strong commitment to ensuring our children’s oral health is well taken care of,” he said.
The school also expressed its appreciation to Labuan Federal Territory Health Department officer Dr Faroneca Elfera Fabian and nurse Easterianie Kupit for their commitment and cooperation in ensuring the success of the high-impact programme. The event was coordinated by SK Tanjung Aru School Health Coordinator Carmen Edward and was attended by members of the school’s Parent-Teacher Association (PTA), who showed their support for the initiative.
