LABUAN — A container was 70 per cent destroyed in a fire at the Labuan Shipyard & Engineering Sdn Bhd (LSE) premises early Tuesday, but no casualties were reported.
The Labuan Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) said it received an emergency call at 5.51 am and dispatched personnel from the Rancha-Rancha and Labuan Sentral Fire and Rescue Stations to the scene.
“Firefighters arrived at 5.55 am and found a 30-foot by 10-foot container engulfed in flames, with about 70 per cent of the structure already damaged,” the spokesperson said.
The operation commander, Fire Officer Mohd Fazlie Ardain, assisted by Fire Officer Khairul Anwar Wahab, led the firefighting operation under the supervision of Senior Fire Officer Emil Taihin.
The fire was brought under control at 6.28 am using one hose line with two water jets supplied by the fire engine’s onboard water tank, and the operation concluded at 7.20 am.
A total of 15 firefighters and three fire vehicles, comprising a Light Fire Rescue Tender (LFRT), a Fire Rescue Tender (FRT) and a water tanker, were deployed to the scene. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
