LABUAN — Universiti Malaysia Sabah Labuan International Campus (UMSKAL) recently underwent a fire safety inspection by the Fire and Rescue Department of Malaysia (JBPM) Labuan to facilitate the renewal of its Fire Certificate.
The inspection, conducted by officers from the JBPM Labuan Fire Safety Division, was led by Assistant Senior Fire Superintendent Azlan Talin, Assistant Fire Superintendent Huzyman Malikin, Assistant Fire Superintendent Nur Fatin Nadia Jamain and Fire Officer Mohd Syazwan Wohanis.
The inspection assessed the campus buildings’ compliance with fire safety requirements before the Fire Certificate renewal could be considered.
Among the aspects examined were the condition and functionality of fire alarm systems, fire lifts, wet riser systems, fire hydrants, hose reels, emergency lighting, fire extinguishers and emergency exit routes.
Also present during the inspection was UMSKAL Development and Maintenance Sector head Mohd Abdullah Manggul, along with staff from the sector, who provided full cooperation by supplying relevant documents and fire safety maintenance records and assisting the JBPM officers during on-site inspections.
UMSKAL said it remained committed to ensuring that all university buildings complied with prescribed fire safety standards to safeguard the wellbeing of students, staff and visitors.
The university said the commitment was in line with its continuous efforts to provide a safe, conducive and regulatory-compliant learning and working environment.
