LABUAN — Police have taken action against the driver and owner of a Toyota Vios after the vehicle was caught being driven dangerously at Jalan Nagalang, near the Labuan International School junction, on Aug 14.
Labuan district police chief Supt Wan Mohd Firdaus Wan Zaki said the incident, which occurred at about 5.39 pm, was recorded on a dashboard camera (dashcam) and subsequently uploaded to social media.
“The recording showed the vehicle making a dangerous overtaking manoeuvre, nearly hitting a motorcyclist,” he said in a statement issued yesterday.
He said investigations by the Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Division of the Labuan District Police Headquarters found that the vehicle was being driven by the father of the vehicle owner at the time of the incident.
The 65-year-old local man was issued two summonses for driving without a licence under Section 26(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 and for dangerous overtaking under LN 166/1959.
The vehicle owner was also issued a summons for allowing an unlicensed person to drive under Section 26(1)(b) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
Wan Mohd Firdaus said police would continue taking enforcement action against road users who drove dangerously and endangered the safety of other road users.
He also urged the public to channel information on traffic offences to the police, adding that clear dashcam recordings containing details of the time and location could assist police in identifying and taking action against offenders.
“PDRM Labuan advises all road users to comply with traffic regulations, practise safe driving and always prioritise their own safety as well as that of other road users,” he said.
