LABUAN — Strategic cooperation between Universiti Malaysia Sabah’s Faculty of Computing and Informatics (FKI) and its Labuan International Campus (UMSKAL) Psychology Officer is being strengthened to enhance mental health and psychological support for students.
The initiative was discussed during a meeting involving UMS Labuan International Campus Deputy Chief Psychology Officer Nur Iman Reedzal, FKI Deputy Dean (Postgraduate and International) Dr Nooralisa Tuah and FKI Student Affairs and Alumni (HEP) Coordinator Dr Nuraini Jamil.
Among the initiatives discussed was the development of a Faculty Quick Reference Guide: Supporting Student Mental Health to serve as a quick reference for lecturers in identifying early warning signs, providing appropriate responses and making referrals to relevant parties when necessary.
The meeting also discussed a proposal to conduct the Depression, Anxiety and Stress Scales (DASS) screening among FKI students, as well as a special briefing for lecturers to strengthen their skills in identifying early signs, communicating with students and providing appropriate initial responses.
The strategic cooperation between FKI and the UMSKAL Psychology Officer is expected to establish a more structured, responsive and effective support system, while ensuring students’ mental wellbeing and academic excellence continue to receive balanced attention.
