KOTA KINABALU — Three people were killed while another was injured in a house fire in Kampung Darau, Menggatal, here early today, while separate fires in Tuaran and Pitas damaged four terrace houses and a multipurpose hall.
In the Kota Kinabalu incident, the Sabah Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) said the victims, comprising two women aged 67 and 29 and a 53-year-old man, were found burnt at the scene.
A 34-year-old man suffered burn injuries and was taken to hospital by the department’s Emergency Medical Rescue Services (EMRS) vehicle for further treatment.
The department said it received the emergency call at 1.43 am and firemen from the Lintas Fire and Rescue Station arrived at the scene at 1.50 am, about six kilometres away.
The fire completely destroyed a two-storey non-permanent house measuring approximately 40 by 40 feet.
The blaze was brought under control at 2.10 am, while the operation ended at 5.19 am after firefighters ensured there were no further hazards at the scene.
In Tuaran, four two-storey terrace houses in Lorong 10, Taman D Sri Gayang were damaged in a fire at about 12.28 pm.
JBPM said the first house was 90 per cent damaged, the second 30 per cent, while the third and fourth houses each sustained 10 per cent damage.
No casualties were reported.
Firemen from the Tuaran Fire and Rescue Station arrived at the scene at 12.48 pm, about 17 kilometres away, and brought the fire under control at 1.13 pm.
The operation ended at 2.11 pm after firefighters ensured there were no further hazards.
Meanwhile, in Pitas, a permanent multipurpose hall in Kampung Dandun was 50 per cent damaged in a fire.
JBPM said it received the emergency call at 1.33 pm and firemen from the Pitas Fire and Rescue Station arrived at the scene at 2.03 pm, about 24 kilometres away.
The fire was brought under control at 2.10 pm using one hose reel water line supplied by the fire engine. No casualties were reported.
The operation ended at 3.10 pm after firefighters ensured the area was safe.
