LABUAN — The Inova-Sinar Language Programme organised by the Language Unit of the Learning Sector, Labuan Federal Territory Education Department, aims to help upper secondary students identify challenges in Malay and English and develop more effective and meaningful learning approaches through creative and innovative projects.
The programme, held on Aug 19 at the Labuan Correctional Centre Hall in collaboration with Management and Science University (MSU) Kota Kinabalu Campus, also supports Strategic Thrust 2 of the Malaysia Education Plan to optimise every student’s potential through meaningful learning experiences and prepare them to become global citizens.
Inova-Sinar Programme Coordinator Junaidah Baharuddin said the programme also supported the target of ensuring students achieve at least a Grade C in Malay and English.
“Through creative and innovative projects, students are given the opportunity to take the initiative to transform their learning methods into approaches that are more effective and meaningful,” she said.
As part of the programme, a good practices and innovation workshop for teacher mentors, who served as student facilitators, was held on July 13 and conducted by Dr Hyginus Lester Junior Lee.
The workshop exposed teachers to the Form Five content and learning standards for Malay and English, focusing on areas that could be strengthened through learning interventions involving students’ creativity and innovation projects.
The programme’s closing ceremony was officiated by Labuan Federal Territory Education Department Learning Sector Deputy Director Ag Rozlan Manan.
SMK Lajau, represented by Vanessa Anne Kareen Voo and Aina Farisya Rashid, emerged champion in the Malay language category, while SM Sains Labuan, represented by Amalia Zara Abdull Muqtadir and Aleya Sofea Mohd Farizal, won the English language category.
SMK Rancha-Rancha and SMK Pantai took second and third place respectively in the Malay language category, while SMK Taman Perumahan Bedaun and SMK Pantai finished second and third respectively in the English language category.
Also present were Language Unit Chief Assistant Director Amiah Bua, MSU School Liaison Officer Hajar Ambolau and MSU Industry Liaison Officer Anthony Chai.
