LABUAN — A friendly pickleball match between Universiti Malaysia Sabah, Labuan International Campus (UMSKAL) and the Marine Department Malaysia, Labuan Federal Territory (JLM WPL) was held at the UMSKAL Main Hall on Monday to strengthen ties among staff of both organisations.
The match, held from 7 pm to 10 pm, provided an opportunity for players from both organisations to interact in a relaxed and healthy environment while fostering friendship among the pickleball community in Labuan.
UMSKAL team captain Che Din Md Salleh said the sporting activity also promoted a healthy and active lifestyle through participation in sports, particularly pickleball, which is gaining popularity among the Labuan community.
He said such activities not only benefited participants’ physical fitness but also helped foster camaraderie, teamwork and friendship between university staff and government departments and agencies in the Federal Territory.
“The UMSKAL team also plans to continue organising friendly matches with other government departments and agencies in the future to expand the pickleball community network and encourage more organisational members to take part in sports activities,” he said.
The UMSKAL team comprised Che Din, Dr Jaludin Janting, Mohd Abdullah Manggul, Yusdi Lamat, Rahim Warset, Farizah Ismail and Noor Lailinna Abidin, while the Marine Department Malaysia, Labuan Federal Territory team was led by Hazaimi Othman.
Che Din also expressed hope that the university management would consider constructing a dedicated pickleball court at UMSKAL in the future.
He said the facility could encourage more staff and students to take up the sport, in line with the growing popularity of pickleball.
The friendly match is expected to pave the way for more joint sporting activities between UMSKAL and government departments and agencies in Labuan, further strengthening cooperation and community spirit through sports.
