KENINGAU — The Keningau Fire and Rescue Station (BBP) conducted patrols and safety checks at several buildings in the district following a weak earthquake this morning.
The Malaysian Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) Sabah said the magnitude 3.4 earthquake occurred at 9.31 am, with its epicentre located 10 kilometres west of Keningau at a depth of 10 kilometres.
“The tremor, with coordinates of 5.3 degrees north and 116.1 degrees east, was felt in Keningau and surrounding areas,” it said in a statement today.
The patrols, involving seven firefighters, included inspections at the G-MART Keningau building, Apollo Furniture building, Keningau Health Office and Keningau District Police Headquarters (IPD).
“Checks found no structural damage to the buildings inspected, while no incidents involving building collapse, fire or injuries were reported,” it said.
The department said firefighters also advised local residents to remain vigilant for possible aftershocks and to notify the authorities immediately if they noticed any damage or encountered an emergency.
The operation began at 9.40 am and ended at 11.05 am after the situation was found to be safe and under control, with the team returning to the station.
The operation was led by PBK I Danny Boy.
