LABUAN — A total of 53 Pembimbing Suai Mesra (PSM) or student mentors from Universiti Malaysia Sabah Labuan International Campus (UMSKAL) have been appointed to assist and guide new students during the 32nd Minggu Suai Mesra (MSM) for the 2026/2027 academic session.
The appointment certificates were presented at a ceremony held at the Theatrette Hall, UMSKAL, today, officiated by Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Student Affairs and Alumni), Prof Dr Raman Noordin.
Also present were UMSKAL Director Prof Dr Shamsul Bahari Shamsudin, UMSKAL Residential College Principal Ts Hadzariah Ismail, UMSKAL Student Affairs Division head Nur Iman Reedzal, and 32nd MSM director and UMSKAL Student Representative Council (MPP) vice-president Nurul Anisyah Suardi.
In his address, Raman urged the PSMs to carry out their responsibilities with dedication and be physically, mentally and emotionally prepared to fulfil the trust entrusted to them.
“I hope the PSMs will shoulder their responsibilities with honesty, courage, dedication and wisdom in making decisions.
“UMS hopes to produce students who will become future leaders of the country and contribute meaningfully to their religion, community and nation,” he said.
Raman said the PSMs would serve as the backbone in welcoming new students and helping them adapt to university life.
He said the appointment ceremony was aimed at recognising the role of UMSKAL students in contributing to the university’s success while fostering a sense of responsibility towards their duties.
The PSMs were selected from among students with good character and excellent academic performance.
The MSM programme is held to welcome new students reporting for the 2026/2027 academic session, while introducing them to campus culture, the spirit of togetherness and student identity at UMSKAL.
Raman also expressed his appreciation to all PSMs, officers and staff of UMSKAL who will be involved in this year’s MSM.
“The presentation of the appointment certificates is not merely symbolic, but represents a trust that the PSMs must uphold towards the university,” he said.
