LABUAN — The Immigration Department detained 20 foreigners during enforcement operations at six locations in the Federal Territory of Labuan yesterday and early today.
The detainees comprised 10 Indonesian men, five Filipino men, three Filipino women and two Filipino boys.
The Federal Territory of Labuan Immigration Department (JIM) said in a statement today that the operations, namely Op Mahir, Op Kutip and Op Bersepadu, were conducted from about 3.30 pm to 6 pm yesterday and from 12.30 am to 3.30 am today.
“A total of 215 individuals were inspected during the operations, while 20 foreign nationals were detained for allegedly committing offences under Section 6(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63 (Act 155) and the Immigration Regulations 1963,” it said.
The operations involved 41 personnel from various agencies, comprising 23 Immigration officers, six officers from the National Registration Department (JPN) and 12 members of the Malaysian Volunteer Corps Department (RELA).
All detainees are currently being held at the Labuan District Police Headquarters (IPD) and Labuan Immigration Depot for investigation and further departmental action.
The department also issued two summons notices during the inspections to assist in further investigations.
It said enforcement action would continue against any party found to have committed offences under the Immigration Act 1959/63, Passport Act 1966, Immigration Regulations 1963 and Anti-Trafficking in Persons and Anti-Smuggling of Migrants Act 2007 (ATIPSOM).
“Strict action will also be taken against parties who employ or harbour illegal immigrants,” it said.
