LABUAN — A total of 447 new students of Universiti Malaysia Sabah Labuan International Campus (UMSKAL) are ready to begin their academic journey after completing the 2026/2027 Minggu Suai Mesra (MSM) programme.
UMSKAL director Prof Dr Shamsul Bahari Shamsudin, who officiated the closing ceremony at the UMSKAL Main Hall here yesterday, urged the students to make full use of the opportunities available at the university to develop not only academically but also in character, leadership, soft skills and co-curricular activities.
He encouraged the students to actively explore knowledge and experiences beyond the classroom to develop communication, critical thinking, problem-solving and teamwork skills.
“Being a university student is not merely about pursuing academic excellence, but also requires intelligence, patience and commitment in building experience and character,” he said.
The closing ceremony also featured a singing performance in conjunction with Malaysia Day, followed by an aerobics session under the UMS Sihat programme led by Mohd Quazly Ariffinanzy @ Bob.
The activity served not only as a symbolic conclusion to MSM but also highlighted the importance of maintaining an active and healthy lifestyle among university students and staff.
The closing ceremony and Jom Sihat programme were organised by the UMSKAL Sports and Recreation Sector (SSR), headed by Rozeyatie Ibrahim, who is also the UMSKAL Youth and Sports Officer.
SSR aims to foster an active and physically fit culture among university members while developing “the thinking athlete”.
MSM is one of UMSKAL’s key programmes to welcome new students, serving as a platform to introduce them to the campus environment and university culture while helping them adapt to university life.
Also present were Labuan International Faculty of Finance (FKAL) Deputy Dean (Student Affairs and Alumni) Dr Hassanah Husin, Centre for the Promotion of Knowledge and Language, Labuan International Campus coordinator Dr Siti Halimah Putung, and sector heads.
