Pupils, teachers and members of the SK Tanjung Aru community participate in the BMSS @ HePiLI 2026 programme at the school in Labuan.

LABUAN — Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Tanjung Aru here was among the schools selected to participate in the National Malaysia Healthy and Prosperous Month (BMSS) @ HePiLI 2026 programme, held concurrently with the national-level Virtual X-BREAK BMSS @ HePiLI programme on Sept 23.

A total of 575 pupils, 39 teachers, six members of the Support Staff Group (AKP) and 20 members of the school community, including the Parent-Teacher Association (PIBG) committee, took part in the programme at SK Tanjung Aru.

The national-level Virtual X-BREAK BMSS @ HePiLI programme was held simultaneously at about 1,000 educational institutions nationwide, involving preschools, kindergartens, primary and secondary schools as well as higher education institutions.

The programme aims to promote active and healthy lifestyles while increasing health literacy and empowering the education community to cultivate healthy living practices.

X-BREAK involves two to five minutes of light exercise or stretching after prolonged periods of sitting or inactivity. The activity is intended to break up sedentary periods, reduce muscle tension and improve blood circulation.

The Labuan Health Department also organised a seven-station Explorace, with four stations conducted by the department covering physical activity, environmental cleanliness, safe and clean food, and effective tooth-brushing.

The remaining three stations, organised by the school, focused on the School Resource Centre, history and Islamic education.

The Explorace involved Year Four to Six pupils, while younger pupils took part in a colouring competition. A Pocket Talk session was also held after the X-BREAK session to deliver health messages to pupils in a relaxed and interactive manner.

In his speech, SK Tanjung Aru Senior Assistant for Co-curriculum Irham Hamid said the programme was not merely a school activity but also served as a reminder to the school community of the importance of personal health, cleanliness and well-being.

“Children, remember three important things: Eat healthy! Stay active! Maintain cleanliness! I want to see SK Tanjung Aru pupils who are healthy, energetic, cheerful and enthusiastic in their studies and co-curricular activities,” he said.

He also expressed hope that X-BREAK activities would be continued by pupils and the school community as an easy daily practice to remain active.

The programme involved 15 Health Department personnel led by Dayang Ramraini Brama from the Health Promotion Section, with participation from the Food Safety and Quality Division and Dental Division.

At the school level, the programme was coordinated by Lim Swee Moi and Noraisah Samin.

At the end of the programme, prizes were presented to pupils who excelled in the Explorace and colouring competition by Dayang Ramraini, representing the Labuan Health Department.

SK Tanjung Aru also presented a certificate of appreciation to the Health Department for its commitment and support in making the programme a success.

The programme is expected to further strengthen a culture of active and healthy living among members of the education community, with the message: “X-BREAK, Just 2–5 Minutes, Every Day!”
