LABUAN — The Malaysia Consumer Claims Tribunal (TTPM) today awarded a total of RM43,184 to consumers in six of seven claims heard at the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) Federal Territory of Labuan office.

The hearing, chaired by TTPM president Salmi Zalinah Abdul Rahim, involved five claims related to services and two involving goods.

Of the five service-related claims, one concerned residential electrical wiring services, while four involved Umrah and Hajj packages.

The two claims involving goods concerned disputes over the purchase of household furniture and the supply of cement.

Following the hearings, TTPM issued six awards totalling RM43,184 to the claimants, while the hearing of the remaining case was adjourned.

Of the six awards, one Form 10 award amounting to RM805 involved a claim for residential electrical wiring services.

Two Form 8 awards totalling RM22,899 involved the purchase of household furniture and house construction services, while three Form 9 awards involving refunds totalling RM19,480 were issued for claims related to Umrah and Hajj packages.

The awards constitute Tribunal orders that must be complied with by the parties concerned in accordance with the decisions made during the hearings.

As of Sept 29, TTPM Federal Territory of Labuan records showed that 20 consumer claims had been filed, involving a total claim value of RM128,585.91.

Of this amount, awards totalling RM101,768 had been issued to consumers.

Meanwhile, KPDN Federal Territory of Labuan director Junaidah Arbain advised consumers to remain vigilant and conduct thorough checks before making any payment transactions, particularly for high-value goods or services.

“Consumers should not remain silent when dealing with unethical traders or receiving products that do not meet the agreed specifications, but should instead seek redress through recognised channels.

“TTPM remains committed to protecting consumer interests by providing an alternative avenue for consumers to seek redress over the purchase of goods or services in a simple, affordable and expeditious manner,” she said.
