LABUAN — Six foreign nationals, including a child, were detained during an Immigration Department enforcement operation in the town area here on last night.

Federal Territory of Labuan Immigration Department director Mohd Redzuan Nawi said the six comprised a Filipino man, three Filipino women, a Filipino girl and an Indonesian woman.

He said the operation, codenamed Op Sapu, was conducted from about 10.30 pm on yesterday until 1.30 am today, involving a team of Immigration officers and personnel of various ranks.

“During the operation, 47 individuals comprising foreign and local nationals were inspected, resulting in the detention of six foreign nationals,” he said in a statement today.

Mohd Redzuan said the six were detained for allegedly committing offences under Section 6(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63 (Act 155) and Regulation 39(b) of the Immigration Regulations 1963.

He said all the detainees are currently being held at the Labuan district police headquarters (IPD Labuan) and Labuan Immigration Detention Depot for investigation and further departmental action.

He said the department would continue taking stern action against any party found to have committed offences under the Immigration Act 1959/63, Passports Act 1966, Immigration Regulations 1963 and the Anti-Trafficking in Persons and Anti-Smuggling of Migrants Act 2007 (ATIPSOM).

“Strict action will also be taken against any party employing or harbouring illegal immigrants,” he said.
