16 Rescued In Separate Penampang Flood Incidents

PENAMPANG — Sixteen people were rescued in two separate flood incidents in Penampang last night and early today, according to the Sabah Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM).

In the first incident, 10 people were rescued after floods hit Kampung Penampang Proper at about 10.40 pm yesterday.

The victims comprised one adult man, three adult women, four boys and two girls.

The Penampang Fire and Rescue Station dispatched three personnel to the scene, arriving at 10.43 pm, and found all 10 victims affected by the floods and in need of assistance to evacuate.

The victims were evacuated from the affected area at 11.10 pm and taken to the temporary relief centre at the Penampang Sports Complex.

The operation ended at 11.50 pm after firefighters confirmed that all victims were safe and that no others required evacuation.

In a separate incident early today, six people were rescued after floods hit Kampung Kibabaig, Penampang.

The victims comprised four adult men, an adult woman and a boy.

The Penampang Fire and Rescue Station received the distress call at 12.14 am and deployed four personnel to the scene, about two kilometres away.

The six victims were evacuated from the affected area and taken to the temporary relief centre at the Penampang Sports Complex.

The operation ended after firefighters confirmed that all six victims were safe and no other victims required evacuation.

Both operations were led by Fire Officer II Mohd Firdaus Sunsai.
