KUALA LUMPUR — The Gyeongnam Regional Office of the Ministry of SMEs and Startups (MSS Gyeongnam), Korea Defense Industry Association (KDIA) and BNK Gyeongnam Bank today organised the 2026 Gyeongnam Defense SMEs Business Meeting here to strengthen cooperation between the Korean and Malaysian defence industries.
The programme brought together 10 defence small and medium enterprises (SMEs) from Gyeongsangnam-do, South Korea, and Malaysian defence companies and business partners for a series of one-on-one business meetings.
The participating Korean companies specialise in areas including fighter aircraft structural design, aircraft engine turbine blades, satellite image sensors and armoured vehicle components.
MSS Gyeongnam and KDIA facilitated the business meetings, which provided opportunities for Korean SMEs and Malaysian defence companies to explore potential partnerships and business opportunities.
The meetings resulted in business consultations as well as the signing of memoranda of understanding (MOUs) between companies from the two countries.
The programme also involved nine students from Changwon National University’s Department of International Trade, who participated alongside the Korean companies during the business meetings.
The students engaged directly with Malaysian defence companies and business representatives, gaining practical exposure to international business and cross-border industrial cooperation.
The latest initiative is expected to contribute to the development of long-term industrial partnerships and further strengthen business ties between Korean and Malaysian defence companies. —Bernama
