KOTA KINABALU — A 27-year-old man was found dead about two kilometres from the site where a Honda WR-V crashed into a drain along Jalan Kawakaan here, while seven people were injured in a separate three-vehicle collision in Keningau tonight.
Sabah JBPM spokesperson said the first victim in Kota Kinabalu was found at about 10.28 am today by firefighters conducting a search and rescue (SAR) operation.
“The victim was found in a drain connected to a tributary after firefighters conducted a water-surface search,” the spokesperson said.
The victim was confirmed dead by police at the scene before being handed over to the police for further action.
The spokesperson said the Kota Kinabalu incident was reported at 4.55 pm yesterday, involving a Honda WR-V which skidded off the road and plunged into a drain.
Firefighters from the Lintas and Penampang fire and rescue stations arrived at the scene at 5.19 pm and conducted an initial search but found no victim inside or around the vehicle.
The operation was suspended at 8.10 pm yesterday on police instructions and was to resume if new leads emerged.
The Sabah JBPM Operations Centre contacted the Inanam Police Station at 7 am today and was informed that there was no latest information regarding the case at that time.
The SAR operation resumed at 8.45 am today, with firefighters beginning a water-surface search in the drain and nearby tributary at 9.21 am. The operation ended at noon after the victim’s body was found.

Meanwhile, in Keningau, seven people were injured in a three-vehicle collision near Sekolah Kebangsaan Binaong at about 7.16 pm today.
The Sabah JBPM spokesperson said the accident involved a Perodua Kancil, Toyota Fortuner and Mazda.
Two victims were in the Mazda, comprising a 60-year-old man who suffered a minor stroke and a 37-year-old female driver who sustained a shoulder injury.
“The male victim was taken to hospital by the Emergency Medical Rescue Services (EMRS) team,” the spokesperson said.
Four victims in the Perodua Kancil — a 36-year-old man, 35-year-old woman, four-year-old girl and eight-year-old boy — were taken to hospital by members of the public before firefighters arrived.
The victim in the Toyota Fortuner was also taken to hospital by members of the public before the arrival of the fire and rescue team.
The spokesperson said nine firefighters from the Keningau Fire and Rescue Station were involved in the operation and the operation ended at 8 pm .
