KENINGAU — A 40-year-old man was killed after the cement lorry he was driving skidded and overturned at Jalan Kampung Bariawa Ulu here this morning.
Sabah Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) spokesperson said its operations centre received an emergency call regarding the accident at 7.02 am through the NG999 system.
“A total of 10 firefighters from the Keningau Fire and Rescue Station arrived at the scene at 7.10 am and found the lorry had overturned on the roadside.
“Based on information from members of the public at the scene, a victim was believed to be trapped inside the lorry.
“Firefighters then carried out a search and rescue operation to locate and extricate the victim,” the spokesperson said today.
The spokesperson further said that a crane arrived at the scene at 10.34 am to lift the overturned lorry to facilitate the rescue operation.
“The victim, a local man, was located inside the lorry at 10.38 am. Medical personnel from the Health Ministry (MOH) confirmed that he had died at the scene,” said the spokesperson.
The operation ended at 10.58 am and involved 10 firefighters from the Keningau Fire and Rescue Station, 10 Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) personnel and two Health Ministry personnel.
