LABUAN — The Labuan Communication Complex, which houses four key agencies under the Ministry of Communications, is set to strengthen information dissemination, broadcasting, journalism and digital development in the Federal Territory of Labuan.

Communications Minister Datuk Seri Fahmi Fadzil said the RM9.5 million complex, covering 4,789 square metres, brings together the Malaysian Department of Information (JaPen), Radio Televisyen Malaysia (RTM), Bernama and the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) under one roof.

“The consolidation of the agencies will enhance cooperation and coordination in information dissemination, broadcasting, journalism and the development of Labuan’s digital ecosystem.

“This complex is not merely a building, but a manifestation of the MADANI Government’s commitment to ensuring that the people of Labuan have access to quality information, communications services and sustainable digital connectivity,” he said in his speech before inaugurating the complex here today.

Fahmi said Labuan’s position as an international business and financial centre (IBFC), as well as an oil and gas logistics hub, made communications and digital infrastructure increasingly important in supporting the island’s economic growth.

He said the facility would also focus on four key areas, namely expanding local media and cultural coverage, strengthening digital access, empowering local entrepreneurs, and enhancing digital literacy and safety among the community.

Fahmi also urged Ministry of Communications personnel to continue engaging with the community and ensure that government policies are communicated in language that is easy to understand and close to the people.

Also present were Labuan Information Department director Ruddyansjah Mahtar Hams, Labuan Corporation chief executive officer Rithuan Mohd Ismail, and heads of government agencies.
