LABUAN — Two Filipino women were detained during an Immigration Department enforcement operation at five residential premises across Labuan late Tuesday night.

Labuan Immigration Department director Mohd Redzuan Nawi said 49 Malaysian citizens and foreign nationals were inspected during Op Sapu, which was conducted from 11.30 pm on Oct 20 to 4 am on Oct 21.

“The two women were detained on suspicion of committing an offence under Section 6(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63. A witness summons was also issued to assist the investigation.

“Both women are being held at the Labuan Immigration Depot pending further investigation,” he said in a statement today.

Mohd Redzuan said the department would continue to take firm action against parties found to have committed offences under the Immigration Act 1959/63, the Passports Act 1966, the Immigration Regulations 1963 and the Anti-Trafficking in Persons and Anti-Smuggling of Migrants Act 2007 (ATIPSOM).

He also warned that enforcement action would be taken against those who employ or harbour undocumented migrants.

Members of the public can report suspected cases involving undocumented migrants by calling 087-421 296, submitting a complaint through the Public Complaints Management System (SISPAA) at https://imi.spab.gov.my/eApps/system/index.do or emailing pro_labuan@imi.gov.my.
