LABUAN — Twenty illegal immigrants were detained by Labuan Immigration Department in an operation carried out on February 11 from 12.30 am to 2.30 am in four locations here.
The director of the department, Raymond Entalai spoke that the raid was made based on public tip-offs and intelligence gathered by the Complaints, Intelligence and Operations Unit of the department.
“Those detained consisted of three men, six woman, seven girls and four boys, all of whom are Filipino nationals aged between four months and 59 years for suspected offences under Section 6(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63 (Act 155),” he said adding that some 22 officers were deployed in the operation and no untoward incidents reported during the raid.
He spoke further that all detainees were brought to the Enforcement Division Office of the department for documentation and further investigation.
Meanwhile Raymond told that the department would continue to take strict action against any party that found committed offences under the Immigration Act 1959/63, Passport Act 1966, Immigration Regulations 1963 and the Anti-Trafficking in Persons and Anti-Smuggling of Migrants Act 2007 (ATIPSOM). Firm action would be taken against individuals who employ or protect illegal immigrants.
“We are committed to continuously carrying out enforcement operations to curb the presence of illegal immigrants (PATI) in the Federal Territory of Labuan.
