LABUAN — Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Federal Territories), Hannah Yeoh, announced that small tenants renting premises under Labuan Corporation (LC) around the town will enjoy a 50 per cent discount on their monthly rental.
She said a total of 517 tenants are currently benefiting from the discount at the Labuan Central Market (Labuan UTC) until the end of this year, with monthly rentals ranging from RM35 to RM3,000.
“The incentive will also be extended to 56 tenants operating at food courts under LC, such as Medan Selera and Anjung Selera Labuan International Sea Sports Complex,” she told reporters during her working visit to the island on March 14.
Hannah explained that the discount incentive was introduced by the Madani Government through LC to help traders cope with the rising cost of living and global economic pressures.
“LC will absorb the financial implications amounting to RM573,000 per year from the rental discount initiative to provide relief to small traders without affecting LC’s ability to continue delivering quality services to the people on this island,” she said.
She added that tenants must settle any outstanding rental arrears with LC in order to qualify for the incentive.
Under the scheme, rentals previously priced at RM450, RM400, RM250 and RM200 will be reduced to RM225, RM200, RM125 and RM100, respectively.
During the visit, Hannah also met eight victims whose kiosks were destroyed in a fire incident at Labuan UTC on March 13.
She handed over financial assistance totalling RM10,000 to the affected traders.
Also accompanying her during the working visit was her deputy, Datuk Lo Su Fui.
