LABUAN — A two-storey semi-permanent shop at Simpang 10, Kampung Lajau was 60 per cent destroyed in a fire early Wednesday morning.
A spokesperson for the Labuan Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) said the department received an emergency call at 3.39am before dispatching firefighters from the Layang-Layangan Fire and Rescue Station, with assistance from the Labuan Central station.
“The fire involved a two-storey semi-permanent shop structure, with flames affecting approximately 60 per cent of the building,” the spokesperson said.
The premises, located about 7km from the responding station, was already ablaze when the first team arrived.
The spokesperson said firefighters immediately launched suppression efforts using multiple hose lines, including a 100-foot attack line from the fire engine tank, as well as hose reel and 200-foot lines from the supporting engine.
“Both defensive external firefighting and offensive interior operations were carried out until the fire was fully extinguished,” the spokesperson added.
The blaze was brought under control at 4.29am, while the operation was officially concluded at 6.54am.
A total of 24 firefighters and officers took part in the operation, led by PBK I TBK I Suzana Kibin, while Senior Operations Commander PPgB Asrie Hapit supervised the response.
No injuries or casualties were reported.
Personnel from Sabah Electricity Sdn Bhd (SESB) were also deployed to assist at the scene.
The case has been handed over to the Fire Investigation Division to determine the cause of the fire.
