Eight Houses Damaged In Kudat Fire, One Injured

KUDAT — Eight houses were affected in a fire at Kampung Gumpa here this morning, while one man suffered burn injuries.

The Malaysian Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) received an emergency call at 10.38 am before dispatching personnel from the Kudat Fire and Rescue Station and the Kampung Air Kudat Volunteer Fire Brigade.

Firefighters arrived at the scene, located about one kilometre from the station, at 10.41 am.

Kudat Fire and Rescue Station chief PPgB Darikson Galanang said 25 firefighters were involved in the operation.




He said five houses were 90 per cent destroyed, two others were razed, while another house sustained 10 per cent damage.

“A Proton Satria car and two motorcycles were also completely destroyed in the fire.

“The fire was brought under control at 11.47 am and fully extinguished at 2.15 pm,” he said in a statement today.

A 46-year-old man sustained burns on his upper back and shoulder, and received initial treatment from fire personnel at the scene.

Also assisting in the operation were Sabah Electricity Sdn Bhd (SESB), the Civil Defence Force (APM), and the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM).

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

The operation was led by commander PBK I Mohd Najib Jasri.
